Sherline Problem

I am in the process of building up a Sherline for CNC, but I have a problem,
I want to remove the pulley on the spindle, and it appears that the set
screw, has a broken off ball from an Allen ball Head wrench inside the setscrew.
So far I have tried picking at it with long sharp dental tools
Spinning the spindle at high speeds, hoping it would throw itself out.
Soaking it in WD-40, and trying to pick, or spin it out.
So far no happiness....
Another Question.............................................
Where or how are Sherline owners putting a pickup to measure spindle speed
or position? I have a board with a pickup on it, but wanting to know
where/how, you mounted the sensing disc.
Are you adding a disc to the pulley's, or??? Any links with pictures??
thank You,
bill
