I believe the OP's point was that if it was 25.6 mm to the inch then
you wouldn't need some daft change wheel with a large prime-numbered
tooth count at all - 256 being a power of 2, figuring out the
conversions would be a snap. I would have to agree with his point -
however, we're just a tad too far down the line now.
