Programming Slo-Syn SS20001 with SS2000D6

I'm new to this group, but searched the archives (unsuccessfully) before writing this post. I am designing something to move either the cross slide or a post on a traveling rest of a lathe in a controlled way. I have the appropriate Slo-Syn motor, that is controlled by a SS2000D6 Packaged Drive, that is programmed by an SS20001 Programmable Motion Control units, that is talked to by a computer through an RS232 input. My question is about that last step.

With the above as background, does anyone have a recommendation for a piece of software to use to program and communicate with the SS20001 through a USB port (via a USB to serial port hardware adapter)? I have the manual for the late '90s SS20001 which is filled with xon/xoff, stop bits, baud rates, etc. that induces an unpleasant feeling of deja vu. I really don't want to go back to those days of programming if I can avoid it. Is there a PC-based program that will eliminate most of the pain of telling my Slo-Syn stepper motor how I want it to move?
