I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get any of the usual hobby-level(or even a pro-level) CAM program to talk to it very easily.

...and the parallel port is still alive and well.

Hmm. I'll look at the manuals more closely in light of this, to see how much functionality the SS20001 brings to te table. However, the SS20001 does have an RS232 port for talking to it, while the SS2000D6 stepper controller only communicates via a multipin connector (which is how it talks to the SS20001). Because of this, getting information from a computer directly to the SS2000D6 stepper controller would be the first problem to solve. Also, you mention parallel port. Is one really necessary? They sort of went out of existence over the past decade, replaced by serial port printers that could use the USB ports.

If I solved this communication problem between computer and stepper controller, it would be great if someone with direct experience with Slo-Syn controllers could tell me how difficult is it to configure the settings of, say, Mach3 to talk to it.
