In regards to electronic handwheels for manual control.

Since i planned on using steppers a easy way to have manual control
on all axis would be a manual / CNC switch. CNC mode would work
normally and it would have its jog mode. The manual mode would
switch the stepper inputs to the electronic hand wheels. The hand
wheels would probably have to have some divide by N circuitry to
reduce sensitivity. And the quadrature to the step and direction
circuit in the files section would be needed between the encoder on
the hand wheel and the stepper controllor.

But you still have the problem with not being able to "feel the
metal" and people like me who do not have speed and feed experance
need this.
