If you look closly at the photo, you'll see what appears to be a motor
sticking out from the bottom of the vertical screw housing near the base of
the machine. With an even closer look, it appears there is something
sticking out from both sides of this housing. So I think they may have put
in a custom housing, drive the ball screw from the bottom and eliminated the
spiral bevel gears on top.

This is all a guess from what I can see in the photo...but is SOUNDS
reasonable.
