Well, 2 accurate ballscrews will cost a good deal. Yes, a beefier screw
would help stiffen the entire mechanism. This thing is made out of 3/4"
wrought aluminum, so it is fairly stiff as it is. It would have been stiffer if
I hadn't made so many errors in measuring the shape of the Bridgeport
head. it has so many rounded curves, it was very hard to measure
correctly. My original design was too close to the head, and the encoder
ran into the belt housing. So, I had to make the bolt holes into slots, etc.
to make it clear. that obviously reduced stiffness a bit.
