The head of the standard manual Bridgeport machine has a double-swivel
joint where the head is mounted.
See the picture on http://206.19.206.56/milling.htm and just in front of
where the 'ram' arrow points is the swivel joint. This is a picture of the
ancient round-ram Bridgeport, and the joint is a bit different from what
is used today, but it performs the same job. That is to allow the head to
be angled in various directions for special milling and drilling tasks.
