There was some discussion a while back on how one could implement a 3D
digitizer (the sensors), a lot of sensors were suggested.

I would think a DRO could give you the exact coordinates of the samples,
but you would have to "Transverse" the object with a program, and move
the sensor in a coordinated effort to approach the object. I.E., the
program would have to run BOTH the 3 axis and read the DRO's. Do you
write software? I wouldn't mind having MaxNC's sensor!

The contours I've seen of objects (not just MaxNC) "digitized" all seem
to have the little "car" or whatever "skirted"; no detail for wheel
wells and tires (for example). The digitizer might be best suited for a
"QA" of parts received. Once the significant dimensions were obtained,
then a "proper" CAD drawing could be created around these 3D
measurements, IMO. Or possibly several digitization's from different
views need to (can?) be combined to produce all detail.

Just my thoughts, I never digitized past 2D (medical).
