Alan: In "theory", that would work; that's kinda how the "professional"
machines do it. But I assure you, it is MUCH too involved a project to even
DREAM about, avocationally! If you NEED some screw with a 1/2" or greater
pitch/turn, you would save megabucks (Canadian or U.S.!) to simply BUY the
desired screw from a source such as BSA (San Jose) or Rockkford, etc.
I have built several "home-brew" CNC machines (small lathes, but with NO
"coordination" with spindle-speed/position;see photos "Home Brew..." in
FILES), X-Y plotters and PCB-drills, etc., and one LARGE X-Y Table
(woodworking router) for a firm in England, and I TELL ya! Unless you are a
metalworking masochist (sp?), FERGIDABOWDIT!
