Another brainstorm? Now that I know what the "threading" is for, he could
set up the gearing and mount a rotary cutter (dremel tool) in place of the
standard compound. That way he wouldn't have to worry about power to make
the cut...only the right tpi.
Another way to make what he wants is with a spiral cutting tool used in wood
working. I used one to make doble spirals on a table I built in school
about 8 years ago. had to make nine matching columns with crossed spirals
and fluted ends. The tool I used has several pitch lengths to choose from
and the cutter is mouonted in a router.
