Hi Tim,
Thanks, I assume I can compile a new kenel and call it vmlinuz-2 or
something and still keep the working one as a boot option?
that put me on the right track and it turned out to be just a silly
typo. Trying to 'insmod steppermod.o' from the directory steppermod is
in gave me errors as it couldn't find things like enc.nml and this, I
think, really brought home to me the pedantic nature of the beast. So I
started stepping through the run file I had made by typing in the first
couple of lines and then copying the rest of your run.mymill file into
the new file. It was only on about the third attempt at stepping through
the third or fourth line that I realised through the blue haze that your
/nist/emc is in /usr/local/ and mine is in /usr/src/ ! Once I did a
search and replace of src for local it ran first time.
Now I just have to figure out the configuration settings to suit my own
purposes, finish the mill and work out how to get g-code files across
from the windows/dos disk to the linux one.
Bye the way, when I partitioned the machine last time for linux on hdb,
I created a small partition for dos (when windows boots up it takes
quite a while as if it has found the 'd' drive but doesn't know what to
make of it and so I thought that if I created a dos partition on this
disk it might keep windows happy!), however, I can't seem to find out
how to format it for dos (it's set itself up as hdb5), can you help?
Thanks,
Ian
