I don't condone pirated software either, but these companies really treat
you like crap if you need to replace one of those hardware locks. Case in
point, I had a copy of CadKey which was totally legal, purchased from a
former employer / reseller as shrink wrapped product. I lost the parallel
port lock several years ago, and was told that in order to obtain another
one I needed to return the entire product, software, documentation, license,
keyboard templates and all to CadKey along with the original purchase
receipt. I did so, but the end result was that I did not get the
replacement lock because they could not verify the purchase because my
former employer is out of business. There goes a 4 grand software package
down the crapper!!

You would think that since the product was registerd when newly installed
with the manufacturer that their records would show that I was the original
purchaser and that a new lock would be made available to me. Not so in this
case, even providing a copy of the original mailed in registraton form did
no good. They would not accept me as the original purchaser, but they sure
could send me lots of junk in the mail about new products.
