John:
Why should it even matter whether or not you were the original purchaser,
just as long as you were using a legal copy of the product? The way you were
treated is similar to General Motors refusing to sell you an alternator for
your Catillac just because you purchased the Cadillac from a previous owner,
and not from a GM dealer. Personally, I tend to avoid all "locked" software
like the plague. For the most part, the "lock" is there because the software
is overpriced for what it does. If you look hard enough, you'll find
software that performs similar functions that does not require hardware
dongles or software locks. And, if you look on the Internet, you might even
find something that's fully featured and comes legally for free.

You would think that since the product was registerd when newly installed
with the manufacturer that their records would show that I was the original
purchaser and that a new lock would be made available to me. Not so in this
case, even providing a copy of the original mailed in registraton form did
no good. They would not accept me as the original purchaser, but they sure
could send me lots of junk in the mail about new products.
