I don't remember who started this thread.
Today I had a short look at one of these lathes.
In this case pretty big and old but hitting hard making a lot of chip.
In this machine all 4 cams are mounted on one single shaft
which is connected to the spindle by a cascade of pinions.
The way I would go is like Ian? said put servos on standardized cams
but one for each cam (axis.) This way you are able to manipulate every
movement individually. The only problem might be to get an appropriate
software to synchronize the different movements. at the same time.
I see a really good and pretty cheap opportunity in this approach to convert
a CNC. The most expensive items will be the necessary high count encoders.
