There ARE spiral solid-carbide bits sold for both uses, and these are mostly
interchangeable. However, I somehow get the impression you are asking if
carbide router bits are available? They are actually more common than HSS
for router-use!

The obvious difference is, if you get to looking at "one of each",
side-by-side, is that the metal-cutting bit is a little "beefier" behind the
cutting-edge than some wood-bits. Common sense kinda thing.

Main thing to watch: All of the above, even just handling a fresh (either)
bit in your fingers, is potentially dangerous! I have seen over-zealous
folk, apprentices and "dumb old men", alike, grab for a fresh bit and make
neat incisions on his chubby fingers as he pulled away, realizing he had not
"pulled straight up", or whatever!
