If you look caefully, you can sometimes find both 5.25 and 8" drives that
have modular motor/controllers. These usually had 3 wires, supplying a
ground, +12 V and a run signal to the motor control chip. You'll know
you have one of these when you see a small circuit board attached to the
motor with one or several chips on it, and very few wires going to the
rest of the drive circuitry. I have used these motors in several projects.
