It's not all that bad, Jerry.
I don't know your area in Ohio,
but down here in South Florida there are *plenty* of places
I can go for old, used equipment that doesn't cost that much.

For instance, (and I meant to point this out when I saw someone posted from
Miami)
we have what me and my Pop call the "Gettin' Place" down here.
A non-descript warehouse type building.
Their job is to sell the stuff that the County decides needed to be
upgraded.
It's also where they try and sell off the stuff the cops seize.
So, you get *ALL* kinds of equipment in there.
(not just computers, but including them too)
You hafta know what yer looking at and for,
but you can very easily find a good deal.
I got my Pop a 17" Hitachi monitor for $25..., working.
Took it to his office, plugged it in, and said, "have fun".
Most of the time, they have complete 233-300 Mhz systems for $60-$100.
Got my HP LaserJet II for $35.
*And* , I _have_ walked out of there with a
PII 450Mhz processor and 25 sticks of memory for $35.
(but that's not the norm, just got lucky) (:>)

So, maybe your area in Ohio has someplace similar?
