director was going to Camp David to make plans. And boy did he work
all during his vacation.
Our intelligence agencies, while somewhat "controversal" (for good
reasons) in many circles, exist for a reason. Facts and reality is
all-important when it comes to decision making. During the cold
war, the US spent 10x as much money as the USSR on intelligence, and
we continue to spend enormous amounts to this day. The US has its
position, whether deserved or not, because of its attention to
details through its extensive intelligence gathering.
While this sickens most, and I would even agree is quite "unfair" to
other countries, it allows us to make informed decisions in
everything we do. I could easily see how our near "policeman"
stance towards the world offends everyone, understand that almost
every action we take as a nation is based on those detailed facts
that we expend enormous amounts of money to gather. And we truly
believe those actions are in the best interests of the world, even
if they are based on our clearly biased culture.
Sometimes the US is just wrongly arrogant, ignorant, political and
just inconsiderate towards other nations and their citizens. But
also know that the same, friendly, tolerant and understanding
American citizens that go about their day-to-day business like
anyone else in any other free country, and the same ones who make
the decisions in our intelligence and national security community.
And those people are the same honest people who feed information to
our President.
Don't pay attention to our media. They'll speculate until something
happens. It's called "ratings." ;-PPP

P.S. Sometimes I think the best war we had was Vietnam. It taught
us what can go wrong when you not only have bad information, but
what worse can happen when you falsify information. Bush Sr. took
over the reigns of the CIA after that valuable lesson.
P.S.S. In our "arrogance" role, I do see some 6 months down the
road (when this is all over), our military conducting "excercises"
in and without the approval of foreign nations. I.e., we're
probably going to start being more "active" in taking out known
terrorist camps without the approval of their harboring country that
may or may not know about them.
