Dear John,
that sounds like a British #2 beaver mill like
one I had to tune a month ago. If so it is a serious
professional mill, that eats up quite a bit of money to
convert it or equip it with tools.
If you are willing to wait for your own car several years
and think about building your own professional shop,
then it could be a good start investment.
But knowing the history of my own shop and others I
propose you a different way.

First spend only 20% of what you have as start capital
in your initial investment. Then start producing,
if you see that things are going well you may invest
until you reach 50% of the start capital.
When you reached 50% then the project must make its own money.
If not, then you certainly should stop your activity if
you are not very close to the break through, before
it becomes too late.
This way at least you don't stand nude in the street, if you have to
stop your project.

ALWAYS MAINTAIN LIQUID MONEY!!!! you never know what may happen
in the next moment.

This was always my manner of planing until.... But when I started my
professional shop (I had several hobby shops since age of 12)
I didn't obey my own rule. (confiding in families support -...in vane)
And I fell damn hard on my snout. It is not necessary that you repeat
the same mistake.

On the other hand if I would get the change to start my business
all over again: I would get only one very small accurate CNC mill with
tool changer, equip it completely with all available accessories,
plus one small surface grinder and a small toolmakers lathe.
And I would do only tinny small tooling and machine parts.
As well as small automated special machines.

(NO BIG STUFF.)(QUALITY VALUES MORE THAN QUANTITY)
(one good tool is more valuable than a hole shop full of scrap)

That are interesting grateful jobs with varying challenges.
Which teach you very much, and there is much more money in it
then in the big repair jobs. Without so much capital bound.

By the way think about just getting you a good and complete
set of hand tools (including Dental lab tools and motor tool
(german SCHICK lasts for ever))with that you might make more
projects in college, university and hobby than with a big
machine, that needs a lot of money in tools and maintenance.
Which some day might become a trunk on your leg.

Just think about that you are in an age where you still
are orientating yourself in which direction to go in your life.

So in résumé I suggest to you:
-Equip yourself with good quality hand tools.
Think about versatile uses
-If machines then: multifunctional; small; good quality; high accuracy;
fully equiped;easy and fast to set up; if possible CNC
-DO NOT EXHAUST YOUR FINANCIAL POSSIBILITIES.
-(many small toolmaker's projects satisfy (and teach) more then
one big one that you can realize only once in your life)
-!!!!! S T A Y F L E X I B L E !!!!!

These are the ideas that come into my mind reading your posts
in the last week. I sincerely wish you best luck of all.
Your Sven Peter.
