well, no, linux WILL boot on this machine, NO, there are no memory problems
with this machine. the main issues with win2000 on this machine are out of
my knowledge... er... i mean, when i got this job, the machine was unstable,
after trying to fix problem after problem, i finally decided to reload...
now it turns out the guy i was replacing had pirated win2000, so i installed
win98. one of the main issues SEEMED to be that there was some strange
upgrade that had happened from win98 to winME and then to win2000, with
pieces of those systems still hanging around... AND it was still using the
old filesystem! yes, ive had good luck with vmware, but with 98lite
(running the 95 shell)
the other bad experience i had with win2000 was when i was sent away for
training. the classroom was full of win2000 computers in pentium 3's... the
instructor went on and on about win2000's stability, but 2 hours into it, my
computer froze up solid, as it did two more times before that class was
over. NOW, this only happened to one other person, out of probably 15
people... so i guess that is more stable then win98! my experience with NT
took years off my life, so i dont want to revisite--gotta work now---Dave L.

is unstable, you are almost guaranteed to have hardware (probably
memory) problems. I am running a demanding CAD package in Win2000
on a Linux system using VMware - it is very impressive, and the whole
contraption is stable, too!
