no, i didn't install over the top, that is the way the computer was when i
got here (i didn't touch it mom, honest!)
i droped in toms rb floppy and dd'd the hard drive, fdisk'd it and then
installed windows to its own partition, with programs on a second partition
and an archive for back ups on a third... and another for linux. this
machine is a pentium 4, and i couldn't be less happy with it. this weekend i
am rebuilding some spare parts into a pentium 3 and putting this beast aside
for some hapless new employee. i've got a machine here i simply love, it's
a celeron 667 on the BX chipset, with a matrox vid card... what a great
machine!! oh, its also going to be my machine controller when i get the
router built.

Did you install over the top? This is prone to many problems from what I
hear.
How about reformatting the disk and starting over?
