You might find it hard to CNC feed a tap faster than it should be for a
given pitch.
I do LOTS of power tapping in my Bridgeport, and at say, 1200 rpm, a tap
reaches bottom
-very- quickly.
The Procunier, if feed lags just a bit, will just slip the clutch. At
any point that feed
stops, it simply stops feeding. It will not reverse feed until you
reverse Z travel.
Again, as long as Z feed lags at least a little, you will get clutch
slippage.
Should you over feed somehow, the cone clutches will lock up ever
tighter until something gives.

When I refit my CNC mill with the new quill feed, I'll be able to
disconnect the quill from the ball screw, and plan to use it this way
for tapping. Let the CNC position, M0, and feed the quill manually. Best
of both worlds as long as I don't get ahead of myself and press the
cycle start while a tap is in the hole...<G>
