A is NEVER a linear axis. It is all clearly defined in the RS-274D
specification.
A B and C are rotary axes parallel to the X Y and Z axes, respectively.
U V and W are auxilliary linear axes parallel to X Y and Z, respectively.
So, if a vertical spindle is Z, the knee vertical motion would be W.
A rotary axis parallel to the X axis would be the A axis. A plain
rotary table would be the C axis. There are many more special purpose
axis definitions in the spec, but these are the common ones.
