Some torroid transformers are, or at least used to be, mounted at right angles
to each other. These were RF type, though, and you'd need to ask a HAM about
the details. Some are shielded as well, but then the inside of a radio tends to
be an intricate place, and it's not allways another transformer/coil that needs
the shielding. Other components can pick up stray signals, too, especially
capacitors. You can even use a capacitor to amplify, "gravity waves", which
near as I can tell, sound just like the static you can hear on a receiver. I
allways wondered why no one ever used one of those to subtract noise from the
audio output amps or tape recorder mic inputs, but that's another topic.
