Trailer light connectors are available in multiple terminal
arrangements as some of them carry signals for tail lights, L & R
signal lights, electric brakes, auxillary battery charge wires
ground etc. These connectors come in a variety of shapes & sizes. the
tow vehicle end is designed to mount in a truck bumper and therefore
is a natural to mount in a panel box. It also sports a spring loaded
cap that closes when the unit is unplugged to keep out road dirt(or
machining chips). The trailer end Has great strain relief provisions.
Wires are connected into brass terminals via set screws. The best
sources for these are usually RV dealerships, pick up specialty shops
or Auto Parts stores. Seems a natural to me.
Good Luck,
Dale
