It is possible with some motor/driver configurations that you may get a little
higher top speed with the single winding setup. Most won't make that
much difference, assuming the correct current for each configuration.
Series, of course, would be a LOT worse.

What is your top speed? What is the motor driving, and with what drive
arrangement? These motors may just be too small for the load.
