John: It's INDUCTANCE that causes a stepper to have to run slowly. Too keep
torque at max. and speed at max. you PARALLEL two pairs of coils so that
there are then effectively TWO coils (I'm assuming BIpolar!) (four wires).

If you wire these in series and use the "center tap" as your + common, you
will have less torque, as "half the copper is unused at any instant". Or,
if you wire in series, and NC the CT, then you have FOUR TIMES the
inductance, so things will SLOW way down, though current is lower (voltage is
more!).

Bipolar whereever possible! Unipolar ("six-wire") only in last Century!
