Well, thanks for the thought.... but the
PMDX-120 will not help with Jon's problem.
I have thought a bit about his situation
and have posted a file called Axisdupe.gif
in the circuits folder of our circuits section:

This shows the basic concept of a circuit that
will allow two sets of step and direction
outputs to be used, one at a time, from one
set of step and direction inputs plus a signal
to switch between the active outputs. The
inactive output will hold its last direction
state and will hold its step signal inactive.
