use minicom instead, if you have it. You can run it and using ctrl-A and then
typing "Z", you can get the help/setup page. It might be a little confusing at
first, but go through the various setting sub pages, and you're up and
tlecommunicating in no time.

Some are, and some use something more like a phone hook up line with a couple
extra pins.

Eth0 is your first NIC, (Network Interface Card), or ethernet interface card,
all the same thing, different names. Sounds like you've got some setup work to
do.
