Dave,
Many of the Sign Software packages that are available (and often hard to
live without when vinyl cutting) allow or rather send out code necessary
to properly track a swivel knife. I know in SignLab, you can input the
"drag distance" of the offset knife, and then for example, your code
will actually overshoot corners and make a sweep before changing direction.
Interestingly enough, I never even use the feature as the swivel knife
my machine has, has such a small offset that it is not really noticable
in the final product. This would clearly be a different story if I was
prototyping Cardboard boxes and had a much larger drag distance. If your
application is Vinyl Cutting, you might want to purchase a swivel holder
from one of the suppliers and forget the tangential completely.
I am sure others in the vinyl biz may argue/point out that the
tangential way is the only way, but with the software compensation
options and the fact that I dont even use it and it still looks good,
well, It works for me. Just buy a holder..... I think they run under $100.
