When using the partition manager of your choice to set up the partitions,
you create a partition of reasonable size and set the partition type for
DOS. There is usually a help listing available that lists all the partition types
and their codes. The DOS partition needs to be set bootable, I think, and be
in the first 1024 cylinders. I think if you then run format from a DOS floppy
with the /S/U options, it will copy a boot sector and command.sys from the
floppy to the hard drive. This will generally overwrite your LILO boot sector,
which you can replace by running LILO again, after booting Linux from
a floppy.

If you already have a Linux system set up with no partition for DOS, it gets
a lot harder.
