Gene,

Whose drives are you using?

At what speed (full steps per second) are loosing steps? If it is at
low speeds (below 600 full steps per second), a higher voltage will
not help. At higher speeds the motor will simply stall and not finish
the move.

Are you sure you are using the correct phase current?

Describe your power supply. What size filter capacitor (uF)? Current
rating of the transformer?

Unless you are meaning to overheat and damage your motor, please
observe the "nebulous" 20-25 voltage ratio. It was arrived at by
testing many many motors instrumented with thermocouples and
measuring dissipated power versus supply voltage.
