You don't mention a printer port dongle in the box.
What has probably happened here is that the company has already
upgraded to a later version and the dongle would have been returned
to Mastercam to be swopped.
Software licencing is a very fraught area. Usually what happens is
you only purchase the right to use the software, not to own it.
Some companies like Autodesk will not allow any transer of licences
to 3rd parties so that $3,000 asset is worthless if you close.
Other companies will allow you to transfer licences only if you keep
up with the upgrades and transfer the latest version.
I wanted to give an earlier copy of Vector away to a learner to get
him started but Fred Smith pointed out that I couldn't even give it
away as it wasn't the latest version. This is how their licencing
system works.
Best thing is to see if the manual mentions the dongle or hardware
lock as it's also called. Failing that install the program and try to
start it. If it needs a dongle then you will get an error message
saying can't find lock etc then I'm sorry but you are stuffed.
If it does run then see if you can get a private sale for it and sod
them. You know you haven't stole it.
