Simple comment on your statement.. Many ppl just go out and "obtain" the
software from undisclosed sources (maybe used, maybe not properly licensed,
maybe just down right pirated).. And yes, those are the ones that are
cheap, cuz they don't want to (or can't afford) that $4-8,000. And if those
people could "copy" (via a cd or download) a Mazak Mill, then they would!
But since you can't copy hardware, but you can copy software - then they
just get what they need.
I'm a professional programmer by trade, so I understand the amount of work
that goes into software.. And tricked out software, especially like
solidworks, autocad or mastercam, takes THOUSANDS of hours of work - so it's
understandable that they need to charge the amount of money they do.
