The DRO boards are all sold and like I said there wasn't enough sales to
justify and outlay of $500 for more boards so the point is moot.
But with deskncrt it was possible to shut off the power to the stepper
motors and read the encoder positions like a dro. As I recall EMC will
also do this.
If you are running a stepper system using turbocnc and your system is
running correctly then you don't need a dro.

already fitted with a dro system and drive motors. I don't know much
about DRO's so excuse me for asking stupid questions.
Currently you can move the axis' on the mill with a switch forward and
back and read the position from the DRO. Would it be possible to hook
this DRO up to a computer somehow that runs something like Turbocnc? If
possible, what are the steps needed? Is that perhaps what your DRO
boards do?
