Hi Jerry,
Run the +5 volt line back to the computer. A drive connector, keyboard
or mouse or joystick connector will have +5V. The driver IC's on the
parallel port interface in the computer will "pull" the lines down (sink
current), and turn on the opto's in the Geckos.
Considerable info on this in the archives.
