This explanation helps a lot. With my setup the encoders are on the
motor shaft which is directly coupled to the ballscrew. With the
recommendation of .0001-.0002" resolution I'm going to go with 1000 or
2000 count encoders. I made a mistake with a decimal in my movement per
step calculation initially and speed is not an issue. I also tested the
optical limit switches in my Aerotech slides and they work OK.
I'll just have to wait so I can order some encoders unless someone knows
of a place in the Chicago or Rockford area that stock some.
One of the slides needs adjustment of the crossed roller bearings. One
roller set is not aligned to the one on the other side. This limits the
available travel because one hits the limits before the other.
