That's the way it is SUPPOSED to work.

Sure! If the computer, for some reason, is not telling the drive to move
in the other direction, it will always move in the same direction.

I think Mach 2 allows you to program the parallel port bit assignment of
the step and direction signals. You may have it programmed wrong.
You might also try swapping the X and Y Gecko drives. There could be
a problem in your X drive.
