The "Y" axis is acting the way it's supposed to. But nowhere
does he say that "X" is doing the same thing as Y, in fact he
says "the direction light on the board is not lit up as the
Y axis is", so that implies that the X light is _not_ working.
He previously stated that the problem axis is X, so the dark
LED points to a computer/parport/cable issue, NOT a drive
issue.

I'm an engineer, and often get calls from customers who
need troubleshooting help. It makes me crazy when they
don't realize how important it is to be clear and accurate.
You don't need to understand what is going on, but if you
want help, you must _clearly_ and accurately describe your
symptoms. If the X axis is broken and the X LED doesn't
light up, while the Y LED does light up, that is important.
You need to make it clear that X is dark and Y is not.

Likewise the "helper" needs to carefully read (or listen)
and make sure he understands what the "helpee" is saying.
