Since I am much more of a computer user than programmer, I tend to
use the simplest way that seems to make sense (to me)


TurboCNC is a shareware program that, if I am not mistaken, is still
available for a free download.

That software will allow you to send signals to the parallel port in
a few ways.

one is a simple toggle on/off another is a pulse train.

It does require you to tell the software which port when you set up
the machine. that port is listed on the initial splash screen (a
black screen with white text as a 'splash' in DOS is bland)

then set-up your machine axis to be associated to pins on the port.

Bottom line is that your port is high or low, but the printer works,
so you most likely did not damage it.
