You need to consider more than just the torque rating of the motor.
Most of the Bridgeport conversions are designed to use the existing
pulleys from the old stepper motors. These were usually 1:1 or 2:1 on
the BOSS 6. What you really need to consider is the continuous HP of
the motor in conjunction with the feasability of proper gear
reduction for the operating range required of the machine. You should
also take into account the performance goal and other machine
attributes such as lead screw efficiency, etc. in deciding what is
necessary.
