I think there is some confusion in some parties over what thread
milling is. It does not just mean cutting a thread in a mill. The
threads are actually milled!
This page shows the process for internal and external threads.

No syncronization of the spindle is required, only the z axis
feed. The cutter is actually like lots of lathe threading tools in
a row or to put it another way like a form tool for a mill.
You can of course use taps in a mill with the correct attachment and
you can also do boring type operations to create threads but this is
different.
