I did a quick run through of my taps from #6 thru 1/4" and the shanks of all
except for a few very old ones measured either .140, .170, .195, .220, or
.255.
Nearest fractional equivalent for each is:
.140 9/64=0.1406
.170 11/64-0.1719
.195 13/64=0.2031
.220 7/32=0.2188
.255 1/4-0.2500

The one that's the most off is the .195, which is still only about 8 thou
difference. I would bet that if you had collets in those sizes, it would
work.

Of course, the common R8 collets I have seen are only available in 1/32
increments, so maybe it would be a good idea to get an "emergency" collet
and drill/ream to whatever size you needed. This would still be less
expensive than some of the prices I have seen in this discussion for the
thread milling tools.

Ah, that's kinda what I expected. The simpler, faster, easier and
therefor more expensive option. heh
