Just remember I am not saying that these motors WILL work, I have never
used them so I cannot be sure. However they do look good and I can't see
any reason why they shouldn't work.

From my experiences with my mill 200 lines at 2.4:1 was pretty much the
minimum. This equates to near enough 500 lines at 1:1. I would have
thought anything less than 2000 lines would work fine. Above that your
are probably going to be spending more money for no noticeable gain.
Both the Rutex and Gecko drives expect to use a 5V encoder. They both
output 5V so you don't need an independent 5V supply. I have heard good
things about the US Digital HEDS range of encoders. They are reasonably
priced and seem to work well. The lower priced encoders come as a disc
and a reader module. You have to find a way of mounting the disc on the
shaft and the reader in the right place to read the disc. You need to
protect them from dust and direct bright light. The more expensive
encoders come as a complete sealed unit that looks like a small motor.
This can be directly driven off the motor/screw or belt driven if it is
more convenient.
