Without really knowing what is being developed, I can say this about CAM programs. Even with $150 Bobcad17, As an example I can type a name in any font, vectorize the text, generate the code and have it in the interpreter in less than a minute ready to be engraved. I dont know how it could be done any faster.

I can't find a project called GcodeGen but GenGcode looks very
different to what CS is trying to do. With CS's system you describe
the machining operation by writing Pascal code. Probably not very
attractive to a non-programmer, but it can theoretically be extended
to generate code to perform any operation your machine is capable of.
It's just a SMOP [1] ;) GenGcode appears to be a collection of easy
to use GUI 'wizards' that allow you to generate code to perform a few
common operations such as pocket milling.
