There were all kinds of neat displays. I remember one machine had
a piece of film with the digits 0-9 on it and 10 small incandescent
light bulbs. Things were set up such that all of the digits were
focused at the same window on the display. To display a digit, the
appropriate lamp was turned on.

But by far my favorite display was that on a 5-axis Sunstrand OmniMill.
It used Nixie tubes for the digits. Just got to love those Nixie tubes!
