What you have described is precisely what I have done using a Delphi
script language, with the addition of an OpenGL 3D engine to preview the
toolpath. You are correct that the same idea really is almost trivial
to do in any script language. IMO, part of what makes such a tool
useful is the support that the development environment provides the
user. In order to easily provide the kinds of tools that I think help
users, I've chosen the Delphi based scripting language. This choice was
made primarily because the Delphi script language includes built in
code- and parameter-completion facilities, which greatly reduces the
users requirement for help files to document the available functions.
It also has an integration layer that works with the OpenGL 3D engine,
which allows users to easily add new core operations without losing the
3D toolpath generation.
