Hey Dave,
Heating will be an issue with these motors but I intend to supply a
cooling fan to it or even the exhaust from the vacuum cleaner from the
dust extractor (which may also be a little hotter than needed)
The AXi motor I purchased has a 3 bearing spindle with 5mm hardened
shaft so that should be quite sufficient. The outside end of the
housing has 3 bolt holes that could be used for a BALANCED fan also to
draw air through the motor with maybe a small coweling surrounding the
whole affair, controller included as this will also get hot. I really
like these motors and I noticed on their website that they are now
producing a 53xx series at 85Amps. One hell of a small motor with
price tag to suit! All up, the cost of my setup will be about the same
as the Makita trimmer I purchased 4 months ago.....$242Au. Once you
have stuffed up about 3 x 5-8 hour jobs with the cuts almost 3/4 of
the way through, then the brushless motors look a pretty darn good
option. :)
