This can be caused by many things, but the two main reasons are bad
sectors on the drive or a virus. There are two types of nt kernel as
well, so simply writing a new one two the disk may result in other
problems. This is mainly due to ACPI/non-ACPI stuff.

Anyhow, the Windows 2000 CD should have a recovery option. I'd start there.
